Last night I’m lying in bed for the last part of the Oscars, when John Travolta comes on to introduce best song nominee “Let it Go” From Frozen sung by Idina Menzel. I’m pumped for two reasons. First, I love Idina as she is wickedly talented (one of the few things that Travolta said right). Second, I like to see an old guy like John still around, even if he’s not doing much lately. But, what happened next was another truly bizarre Travolta moment. He completely botched Menzel’s name. In fact, I couldn’t even tell what he was saying so I turned to my Facebook friends with a “WTF, did he just say?” post. If you missed the madness, here it is.
So, what I really want to know is WTH is up with John Travolta? I grew up watching him as a Sweat hog, fell in love with him in Grease and was glad that his career was resurrected with Pulp Fiction. But, the past few years, it seems like he gets more and more bizarre. And, I can’t be the only one that thinks so.
Take his hair. The guy’s going bald. We all know it because we see tabloid pics of him every once in a while with out a hairpiece (and with a big paunch). Last night he takes the stage with the most bizarre hair I’ve ever seen. It looked like it had wings. I was shaking my head because the guy is rich. Can’t he get buy some amazing hair? (There’s also the Scientology thing and the fact that a male masseuse sued him a few years back. Not touching either of those topics).
Couple that with the fact that the guy can’t read (or at least do enough homework backstage to ask how to pronounce her name) and you have one of the biggest Oscar disasters in years. But, here’s the good thing. Idina Menzel slayed the song and it went on to win the big one. So, I’m over John Travolta.
Instead of focusing on the Adela Dazim (or whatever he said) mess, let’s focus on the talent of an up and coming star. Menzel got her start on Broadway in Rent and Wicked (two of my favorite shows) and I love her as Rachel’s mom on Glee. She’s one of the most amazing singing talents of our time and she has the acting chops to be the real deal. She not only looked gorgeous, she belted out an amazing song.
So, who cares about you John Travolta? I’m moving on to watch some new talent. I imagine that your star will be fading out soon.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I’ll disagree on one thing. I think the beginning of the song was a bit rough as was the end. That said, “Let It Go” is an incredibly difficult song to sing! I don’t think many could have done better. It’s definitely one for the studios. Oh, and Juan who?

We recorded the show as we watched it and I’m so glad we did! We watched the John Travolta mess about four times, laughing to tears! I remember the good old days of Travolta, but now I have no use for him, especially with the creepy scientology nonsense. I love that Adela Dazeem has 14k followers on Twitter! I’m stopping by from Bloggy Moms March 2014 Blog Hop!

So well said Deb. I totally agree. There is no excuse for not knowing how to pronounce Idina Menzel’s name. For heaven’s sake, Practice, he’s an actor, I think he could get it right with a little effort. We definintely need new blood in Hollywood!

I probably need to lighten up a bit, but all I could think about was…..”That was weird. Wonder if the poor guy has dyslexia or something?” Who knows? She did do an awesome job I thought. At least it didn’t seem to phase her!! 🙂
